Erma Britton

Erma Vivian Britton, age 90, went to be with the Lord, at 12:30 am Saturday, November 21, 2015, at the Flora Healthcare and Rehab Center in Flora, IL. Erma was born September 23, 1925, in Blair Twp to James Leslie and Clara Arbell (Frazier) Newton. She married Marion Britton, December 22, 1943, in Nashville, TN. He passed away March 19, 1997 after 53 years of marriage. Erma lived and worked in Chicago until Marion came home from the Army. They eventually settled in Sailor Springs. They owned Erma's Cafe in the late '50's then owned the Little Diner in Clay City. She was a homemaker, loved quilting, reading her Bible, rummage sales, and had a passion for genealogy. She loved having her family around her. She is survived by a daughter; Rita Lake of Clay City, two sons; Gary (Darlene) Britton of Decatur, and Steve (Kim) Britton of Estherville, IA; nine grandchildren, Darla (J.R.) Simmons of Xenia, Eric (Karen) Lake of Effingham, Chris (Melanie) Lake of Tampa, FL, Brian (Abbey) Britton of Macon, IL; Alicia (Phil) Julius of Decatur, Hannah (Jeff) Reardon of Beloit, KS, Sarah Britton and Josiah (Sarah Beth) Britton both of Murfreesboro, TN, and Ezra (Amy) Britton of Nashville, TN; ten great-grandchildren, Laken Simmons (Anthony Robbins) and Jessica Simmons both of Xenia, Wyatt and Wade Julius, Brody and Brylee Britton, Abbey, Titus, and Priscilla Reardon, and Bronson Britton; one brother, Ray (Frances) Newton of Dallas, TX; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Groves of Flora and Mary Britton of Clay City; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Arrangements are being handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 25, 2015. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am, Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hoosier Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the donor's choice and will be received at the funeral home.
