William Stanley

William “Bill” Cleveland Stanley, 89, of Bible Grove passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 1:05 p.m. at his home.

Bill was born on November 9, 1932, in Hoosier Township, the son of Jesse and Elizabeth “Leonard” Stanley. He married Noma Lee Fopay on January 27, 1953 and they shard 67 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on May 30, 2020.. He enlisted in the United States Army in January 1953 where he served his County from 1953 to 1955.  Bill worked in the oil field and was a farmer.

Bill loved to attend church and was a member of the Bible Grove Christian Church. He was a member of the Bible Grove Beagle Club, a Charter Member of the Bible Grove Sportsmen Club, Charter Member of the Bible Grove Fire Department, Trustee later on the North Clay Fire Protection District Board for countless years, and a trustee for the Bible Grove Township for several years. Bill loved to run and raise his bird dogs, coon dogs, and beagle dogs and won many state hunts.  He liked to fish and was an avid gardener and was always sharing his produce with everyone.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Jerry) Pilcher of Bible Grove; one grandson, Matthew Brandon Pilcher (fiancée Mariah Hogan) of Bible Grove, 1 great granddaughter, Fiadh Lee Pilcher, 2 sisters; Kay (Dale) Murbarger of Fishers, Indiana; Connie (Pete) Crump of St. Louis, Missouri, one sister-in-law, Janet Fopay, of Flora, along with several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 brothers-in-law, Joe Fopay, Charles Fopay and Melvin West, 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Jane West and Betty Fopay.

Funeral services honoring the life of Bill will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville with Mike Elliott and Gene Birch officiating, and burial will follow at the Bible Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bill’s memory to the Bible Grove Christian Church, and will be accepted through the funeral home.
