Vivian Irene Gammon, age 95, of Kinmundy, IL, passed away at 9:14 pm, Thursday, August 6, 2015 at her home in Kinmundy. Known to family and friends as Irene, she was born Vivian Irene Livesay in Patoka on September 30, 1919. Irene graduated from Kinmundy High School in 1939 and married Frederick Gammon October 1, 1940. She is the mother of two sons, Frederick Gammon and his wife Ann of Marion and Tim Gammon and his wife Charlotte of Kinmundy. Her three grandsons are Kenneth Gammon and his wife Rebekah of St. Elmo, Michael Gammon and his wife Sonya of Bonne Terre, Missouri and Matthew Gammon and his wife Shannon in Brownsburn, IN. In addition, Irene has four grandsons and one great granddaughter, Sean, Ian, Trey, Logan and Macie. Irene also has a brother Darrell who lives in Marion and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A devoted member of Kinmundy Christian Church, Irene taught Sunday school and served as a youth leader. Her employment outside the home began as a switchboard operator in the local telephone office. Later, Irene worked for 17 years at the Agricultural Stablization and Conservation Service as an assistant program and compliance clerk. In Kinmundy, she worked at the local grocery store and part time at Ingram's Pioneer Village. Irene received many awards, including four times Worthy Matron of Salem Chapter #202 Order of the Eastern Star. In 1993 she was Beta Sigma Phi International's First Lady of the Year. Irene enjoyed genealogy and was a member of the Marion County Genealogical and Historical Society, the Kinmundy Historical Society and the Livesay Historical Society. Travel was one of Irene's greatest joys. Touring with family, she has been in most of the states as well as 14 countries, including an inspirational trip to Israel. Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home of Kinmundy, IL. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Kinmundy Christian Church on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 as well as 10:00 am till 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. A Funeral service will be held at the church on Wenesday, August 12th at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to the Kinmundy Christian Church.
