FLORA - Virginia Lee Smith, 90, of Flora passed away at 3:15 PM, Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the Burge House Assisted Living in Flora.
Virginia was born on May 13, 1930, in Norris City, Illinois the daughter of the late Raymond Leonard and Evelyn (Roy) Rutland. She married Owen Earl Smith, Sr., on February 21, 1950 in Louisville, and they shared 55 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 30, 2005. Virginia was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She loved to garden, and craft shows. She owned a ceramic shop in Kentucky and loved making ceramics. She especially enjoyed taking care of her yard and using her Grasshopper Mower.
Virginia is survived by her 3 children; Owen E. (Karen) Smith, Jr., of Flora, Brenda Sue (James) Joyner, of Midlothian, Virginia, Teresa Ann (Wade) Alexander, of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina, 8 grandchildren; Wendy Jean (Derek) Greenwood, of Flora, Owen David (Misty) Smith, Avon, Indiana, Jami (John) Killmaster, of Nampa, Idaho, Brandy Lee (Robert) Horton, of Naylor, Georgia, Chad Joyner, of Richmond, Virginia, Taylor Alexander, of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina, Hunter Alexander, of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina, Hoyt (Sonya) Alexander, of Pinetops, North Carolina, 6 great grandchildren; Kaitlyn Greenwood, of Flora, Brayden Blaize, of Avon, Indiana, Dorian Alexander, of Pinetops, North Carolina, Cayla Lee Montgomery, of Naylor, Georgia, Alexandria Killmaster, of Nampa, Idaho, Kellen Killmaster, of Nampa, Idaho, and 1 great great grandchild; Harper Rose Pennington, of Flora. She is also survived by a brother; Raymond (Doris) Rutland, Jr., of Flora, 1 sister; Peggy Jaco, of Troy, Illinois.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother; Robert Bernie Rutland, 1 sister-in-law; Jewel Rutland.
Private family burial will take place at Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fur A Good Paws Animal Shelter in Flora. McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
