Velma Wilkinson

Velma E. Wilkinson, 93, of Kinmundy passed away at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Odin Healthcare Centre. Velma was born on March 5, 1925 in Meacham Township, the daughter of the late Thomas Allen and Marjorie Mae (Brimberry) Edwards. She married Kenneth Wilkinson on March 5, 1948 in Odin and he preceded her in death on December 2, 1994. Mrs. Wilkinson was a school teacher within the Kinmundy school district for many years until her retirement. In her early years she had taught students in several one room school houses in the area. Some of the passions for teaching and learning could be seen in her volunteer work as a tutor at Homework Hill and at the Kinmundy Library as well as helping young students learn to read in the grade school reading program. She was a member of the Kinmundy Christian Church where she had taught Sunday School classes. She served in the capacity of Oracle with the Royal Neighbors of America. She held memberships with the Senior Citizens of Kinmundy, The Kinmundy Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Jolly Girls and was involved with local blood drives. She sat on the election board and was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program as well as a volunteer and supporter of the Boy Scouts. She is survived by two daughters; Linda (Louis) Gamache of St. Petersburg, FL, Brenda (Richard) Williamson of Kinmundy, 4 grandchildren, Tony Finckbone, Angela Heuman, Kyle (Beth) Williamson, Amy (Clint) Thalman. 11 great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jaime Finckbone, Alexis (Brandon) Cervantes, Jillian and Donovan Heuman, Gracyn and Taylor Williamson, Shaine and Xander Moschenrose, and Jessa and Creeden Thalman. Great-great granddaughter, Freya Taylor.
In addition to her husband and parents, Velma was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Thomas Edwards and by a sister, Ila Mae Neglie. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the Kinmundy Christian Church with Josh Conley officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the church on Monday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kinmundy Christian Church or to the Kinmundy EMS.
