Thomas Howard McGee, age 82, of Hord, Illinois, passed away at 1:08 am, Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Clay County Hospital in Flora with his family by his side.
Tom was born on December 22, 1943 in Olney, Illinois to George Howard and Vera Wilma (McCollum) McGee. Tom was united in marriage to Nancy Williams on April 28, 1967, at the Hord Christian Church. He entered the U.S. Army shortly after and served in Vietnam with the 610th Transportation Company in DaNang, Vietnam.
Tom worked at Laue Ford and World Color Press in Effingham. He opened McGee's Used Cars with his dad, George Howard in 1992. Chad joined the business and opened the body shop. Tom, his dad, George, and son, Chad enjoyed many years working together.
Tom is survived by his wife: Nancy McGee of Hord; sons: Steve (Dennis) McGee of New York, Chad (Paula) McGee of Hord; grandchildren: Savannah (Bruno) Hein of Palmetto, Florida, Samuel McGee of Boston, Massachusetts, Jessica (Jarod) Martin of Rochester, Illinois, Audi (Nick) Vineyard of Brownsburg, Indiana; great-grandchildren: Grady, Kase, and Ollie; sisters: Carole (Terry) Birch, Rita Haines, Marla Groves; brother-in-laws: Ray (Ginger) Williams, Bill (Gayla) Williams; sisters-in-law: Judy Fuller, Peggy (Don) Davis, Cora Jane (Danny) Schoonover.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law; brothers-in-law: Joe Haines, and Paul Fuller.
His blue eyes, smile and laugh will be missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville with John Monnet and Pastor Kelly Carruthers officiating. Burial with military honors will follow the services at Old Union Cemetery, Louisville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tom's memory to either Alzheimer's Association or Louisville American Legion Post #914.
