Stephen Grove

EFFINGHAM - Stephen Lionel Grove, Jr., 90 of Effingham, passed away at 9:05 AM, Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Glenwood Assisted Living in Effingham. Stephen was born on November 24, 1930, in Bible Grove, the son of the late Stephen Lionel Sr., and Blanche (Hastings) Grove. He was in the U.S. Army, and then married Phyllis M. Witt on June 21, 1958, in Chicago and they shared 52 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on August 6, 2010. Stephen worked in the oil industry as a pipeline division for the Shell Oil Company. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham, and he loved to golf at the Cardinal Golf Course in Effingham in his retirement. He is survived by his daughter Kim (Jim) Finley, of Brentwood, Tennessee, 2 grandchildren; Kristina Finley of Nashville, Tennessee, Stephen Finley, of Brentwood, Tennessee. He is also survived by 2 sisters; Margaret "Addie" Adeline Grove, of Bible Grove, Rita Jean (Reggie) Birch, of Bible Grove, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Grove was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother; John Grove. Graveside services honoring the life of Stephen will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 22, 2020 atthe Shouse Chapel Cemetery, Bible Grove, with Roger Marshall officiating and burial will follow. Visitation will be held at the cemetery Tuesday, where friends may call from 10:30 to 11 AM. McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
