Sammie D. Krutsinger, formerly of Kinmundy, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 4th, in Kerrville, Texas surrounded by family. Sammie was born in Stuart, Oklahoma on April 3rd, 1936, to Otis and Ova Elwood. With close ties to Texaco, her family followed the oil boom and moved to Salem, Illinois early in her life. On November 8, 1965, Sammie married Harlas Krutsinger. On that day she became Harlas's wife and mother to his three children. Sammie and Harlas were blessed with a son a few years later. The Krutsingers lived in the Alma, Salem, and Kinmundy areas, running a small grocery store east of Kinmundy for many years. Sammie worked at Bryan Manor in Salem for many years and was also a volunteer EMT in the Kinmundy area. Sammie loved to sing gospel songs and was a member of the Brown Christian Church where she had many cherished friends. In 2004, she moved to Kerrville, Texas. Sammie is survived by her son, Russell Krutsinger and his wife, Phebe, of Flora, Illinois, and stepchildren, Garry Krutsinger and wife, Pam, of Vandalia, Norman Krutsinger and wife, Cathy, of Kerrville, Texas, and Dena Ruffin and husband, Ricky, of Humble, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Pennington, and brothers, Bill Elwood and his wife, Sue, and Terry Elwood of Salem, Illinois. She is well-remembered by eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Mattie Lou Stonecipher, and one sister-in-law, Linda Elwood. Sammie was an amazing woman who leaves a legacy of grandchildren and great grandchildren who knew her simply as Grandma or Granny. Though no family blood united them, she bragged about their accomplishments with the utmost pride and love and she will be missed by many. Stepchildren Garry, Norman, and Dena take great comfort in knowing that as Sammie entered Heaven, she was greeted by their mother, Eileen. Eileen wanted her children to study and work hard and to be good-hearted people. Harlas and Sammie made her dreams come true. Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home in Kinmundy, IL where the family will received friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Funeral Service will be at the Brown Christian Church at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 11, 2013 with Bro. Rusty Courson officiating.
