Roland Ross Kemmerer, age 96, of Camdenton, MO, passed away at 1:47 pm, Friday, January 16, 2015, at Missouri Veteran's Home in Mexico, MO. Roland was born Friday, May 10, 1918 in Louisville, IL, the son of Roland Charles Kemmerer and Elsie (Rodgers) Kemmerer. He was united in marriage to Sue G. Barnes on December 24, 1941, in St. Charles, MO. He served in the Army Air Force, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations from 1942 to 1946. He was a 1936 graduate of Flora High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University for three years before he joined the service. After returning from service, he attended Greenville College, receiving a B.S. Degree, and a M.S. Degree from Southern Illinois University. He also did advanced graduate work at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and at Michigan State University in Lansing, MI. On June 1, 1952, he received his Certificate of Ordination by Bishop Ralph Magee, one of the Bishops of the Methodist Church. He pastored several churches in the Clay County area. He was Assistant County Superintendent of Schools of Clay County when he joined Follett Publishing Company on January 18, 1954. He was made District Supervisor of the Wolverine District of Michigan in 1968, and served in that capacity until December of 1973, when he became District Manager. In addition to his full-time responsibilities with Follett, he taught Psychology and Public Relations at Lansing Community College in 1961 and 1962, and served as president of the Michigan Bookman's Club in 1970. He retired from Follett in 1983. He was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene in Camdenton, MO, and an inactive member of the American Legion. Roland is survived by his wife Sue of Flora; sons, Gary Wayne (Evelyn) Kemmerer of Louisville, IL and Roland Ross (Bridget) Kemmerer, Jr. of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth (Jeff) Derin of Pensacola, FL, Shannon Roland Ross Kemmerer of Alaska, Gordon Glenn (Jamie) Kemmerer of Xenia, Ryan Wayne Kemmerer of Louisville; great grandchildren, Joshua Kemmerer, Kirstie Kemmerer, Glen James Kemmerer and Tyler Kemmerer, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Donald Kemmerer. Arrangements are being handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, IL, where the family will receive friends from 10:30am to 11:30am, Tuesday, January 20, 2015. A funeral service will be held at J.W. Neal Funeral Home at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Interment will be in Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville, IL.
