Robin Ray Gill, age 64, of Clay City, Illinois passed away at 3:10 pm, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Rob was born on August 18, 1960, in Flora, Illinois, the son of Eldon Gerald and Betty (Colclasure) Gill. He spent much of his working career as a heavy equipment operator for IUOE Local 841 out of Terre Houte, Indiana. Rob was a member of the NRA, Flora American Legion SAL Post 14 and the Flora VFW Post 3999.
The following was written as a letter to their Dad from his girls,
You are a man of many hobbies, talents, and gifts, from hunting, target shooting, making furniture, gardening, fixing cars, equipment, mowers... etc, making a bargain or making everyone laugh. You loved your Harley and going on rides. You give the best advice. If someone needs a tool, you can bet you'll have it, painted green. If someone needs help fixing something, you can do it.
You loved your grandkids tremendously. They have so many "papa" moments including- if it is a full moon, you can guarantee you'll be calling them by 9pm to tell them to go look at the "mooooon."
You have been and always will be the best dad! You would give the shirt off your back or the last dollar in his pocket to help us. We appreciate everything you've done for us!
Fondest memories-having that purple golf cart you painted us or not one, but two ford festivas you taught us to drive stick shift around the yard. Countless weekends spent down at the duckpond, riding 4-wheelers and clearing land. All the great trips taken in the dually wondering why that backhoe is still following us...not to mention all the naps spent riding to auctions with you. We hated being woke up by the water guns, bells, or duck calls.... but enjoying being the adult and waking up the kids like that.
You love Playing with Lucy Our morning IGA donut dates before school (Rae), you're the only red headed goofy guy that could find two ugly cars and drive them until the wheels fall off.
Rob is survived by his special friend of over 8 years: Martha Brown of Clay City; daughters: Kaci (Rory) O'Dell of Flora, Hannah (Anthony) Tucker of Flora, Rae Anne (Ryan) Hoffman of Clay City; grandchildren: Jett and Ayla O'Dell, Adelyn, Reid, Dawsyn, Alyvia, Landon Tucker and Cooper Hoffman. He is also survived by his siblings: Steve Gill of Flora, Rick Gill of Flora, R.J. Gill of Cottonwood, Arizona, Lorena Gill of Clay City, Sandy Lingle of Flora, and Marina Bookhout of Cisne; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
