LOUISVILLE - Robert Lee Colman loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday August 16th at the age of 86.
Robert was born December 12th 1934 in Clay County, Illinois to Herbert Lee and Beatrice Lorraine Colman. He lived in Louisville, IL. Robert was known by loved ones as Bob. His life occupation was that of a famer. Bob and his wife Shirley built their family farm together. They worked hard and enjoyed life together for many years having started their marriage young in life.
Bob was very joyful man and he loved to tell a good joke, in fact he may have invented the dad jokes of today. He was an amazing story teller. His favorite thing was to tell a good story over a glass of sweet tea. And if you couldn’t find him, you would only need to go to Grandma Colman’s house where you would find him eating her cookies and drinking sweet tea. He never wanted to hurt his wife’s feelings, so often he would eat her lunch too even if Grandma Colman had already fed him. That’s just how kind and loving he was.
He loved to fish and hunt. He was known for shooting a pigeon out of the air from 400 yards, or so he said, could have been one of his great tales, we will never know. He liked to gather antiques including old guns. He liked to mushroom hunt and collect arrow heads as well. Bob loved horses and they likewise loved him. He was a bit of horse whisperer. Bob’s favorite music was that of Johnny Cash even up to his last day he was “walking the line”.
His church family, his faith and his love for Jesus were all very important to him. We know that his faith was his guide throughout his life and was his comfort in his final days. Bob loved God, his kids and grandchildren more than anything. When his grandchildren were there, he just lit up. He was a kind and loving father and grandfather. His children have many fond and loving memories of his kindness. His pride and joy truly were his grandchildren and his beloved children.
Bob had 5 siblings; Ronald Colman, Susie Polistina, John Colman, Rodger Colman and was preceded in death by his beloved brother Jerry Colman. Bob was dearly loved and will be missed by his 5 children; Chris, Cindy, Tim, Cathy and Tony, his 10 grandchildren, and his 5 great grandchildren, all of whom were loved and adored by Bob. His love will live on for them in his funny jokes, his great tales and his faith he shared in Jesus.
Funeral services honoring the life of Bob will be held at 12 noon, Friday, August 20, 2021 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville with Chris Colman and Joe Smith officiating.
