Nevel Marvin Jones, age 90 of Louisville, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 30, 2026, at his home in Louisville.

He was born on August 2, 1935, in Kinmundy, Illinois, the son of John Paul and Gladys (Logan) Jones. Marvin was united in marriage to Kathryn Dane on May 17, 1958, in Alton, Illinois and they shared 68 years, 1 month, and 13 wonderful days of marriage.

Marvin dedicated many years of his life to serving others through his work in various roles. He began his career at the International Shoe Factory in Flora, followed by over 20 years at World Color Press, where he became known for his strong work ethic and dedication. After stepping into retirement, he embraced a new role as a Greeter at Walmart in Effingham, later transferring to the Flora location, and eventually transitioned to maintenance at the Clay County Hospital. His kind nature and welcoming smile left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of sharing time with him.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Marvin enjoyed camping and boating in his younger years. In his retirement, he found joy in tending to his yard, where he could often be found planting new flowers and ensuring that his lawn was nothing short of pristine. His meticulous care reflected not only his passion for gardening but also his deep appreciation for nature and the home he cherished. He also had a fond joy of keeping his old pickup truck "Baby" in immaculate condition.

Marvin was a devoted family man, whose love for his grandchildren illuminated every family gathering. He cherished the moments spent with his family, creating beautiful memories that will forever hold a special place in their hearts. Marvin was a lifelong member of the Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle Church in Iola.

Marvin is survived by his loving spouse, Kathryn Jones of Louisville; children: Mark (Karen) Jones of Flora, Kristina (Heath) Jennings of Clay City, Dana Doty of Flora; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; brother: Doug (Liz) Jones of Denver, Colorado, sisters: Peggy (Bruce) Maybeck of Florida, Pat Clevenger of Florida, Vicki (Nyal) Dickey of Flora; and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law: Tony Doty; brother and sister-in-law: Robert "Bob" (Erma) Jones.

Funeral services to celebrate Marvin's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the McGriff Funeral Home in Lousiville with Brother Craig Fritchley officiating. Burial will follow at the Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marvin's memory to the Clay County Cancer Crusaders.
