Michael Alan Lewis, 66, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away at 5:40 pm, Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the Advent Health Center in Merriam, Kansas.

Michael Alan Lewis, son of the late Bobby and Shirley Lewis was born August 20, 1955 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was the oldest of four siblings and grew up moving frequently as his dad was in the U.S. Airforce.  After high school, Mike made the commitment to follow Jesus with his life.

Mike was married to Joan Gullett on May 20th, 1977. They had four children, Jenny, Christa, Caleb and Gabe. In their family, they established the beautiful rhythms of reading the Scriptures, going to church, having Bible Study in their home, and serving in Sunday school.

Joan and Mike were instrumental in leading the family into the world of adoption.  They adopted Gabe on December 10th, 1999, and their lives were changed forever. Their adoption of Gabe was the first of many adoptions in the family including grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  They have six grandchildren Silas Lohr, Gai Pizzutelli, Ajay Lohr, Izzy Pizzutelli, Norah Lohr, and Gailee Pizzutelli.

In May 2015, Joan suffered a massive heart attack that led to her getting a heart transplant. Mike became her caregiver and stuck by her side through the ebb and flow of her health. Then, in August of 2020, Mike was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Joan then became his caregiver and took care of him until his death.

Mike’s life has been marked by lots of love and joy but also suffering and hardship. God is faithful and we take comfort in Him.  “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

Graveside memorial services honoring Mike’s life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the Old Union Cemetery, Bible Grove. The McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville is entrusted with the arrangements.
