Marzella Delene Petersen, of Hord, IL, passed away at Clay County Hospital, on September 11, 2014, at 2:45 pm. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Marzella was born August 23, 1926, in Urbana, IL. She was the daughter of Otto and Lottie (Smith) Willis. She married Edward Petersen, March 5, 1943. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1970. She was the loving mother of 7 sons, grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Marzella spent most of her life caring for her family, friends, and others in the community. She enjoyed reading books in her free time. She was a longtime member of Old Union Church. Surviving are her sons, James (Joyce) Petersen of Woodbine, KY; William (Karen) Petersen of Rushville, IL; Larry (Joyce) Petersen of Hord, IL; Albert (Loletta) Petersen of rural Mason, IL; and Allan "Doc" Petersen of Hord, IL. Also two daughter-in-laws, Susan Petersen of Hord, IL, and Teri Petersen of Effingham, IL. Also surviving are brothers, Aden Willis of Anderson, IN and Herman Willis of Effingham, IL. Sisters, Velma Daniels of Eldorado, IL, Rosie (Leroy) Burgess of Edgewood, IL and Phyllis (Larry) Danks of rural Altamont, IL. Marzella was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward; sons Phillip Petersen and Marty Petersen; brothers Dillard Willis and Richard Willis; sister Genelle Tucker; and grandchildren Rebecca Petersen and John Petersen. Private graveside services will be held at Old Union Church Cemetery, Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 2:00pm. Memorial contributions may be sent to Clay County Animal Rescue Shelter and will be recieved at the funeral home.
