Marjory Ellen Field, age 105, passed away at 4:24 pm, Saturday, September 6, 2025, at her home in Effingham with her loving daughter by her side.
She was born on October 16, 1919, in Richland County, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Edgar and Ida (Lennen) Hundley. She married Truxton K. Field on August 29, 1946, at the old Pleasant View Church in rural Richland County, and they shared nearly 30 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 18, 1976.
A trailblazer for women, Marjory pursued her education at Stanford Brown University for Business, a remarkable achievement during a time when many women did not attend college. Her determination paved the way for future generations, showing that ambition knows no gender.
Her career spanned many years, beginning with her role as a secretary for several attorneys in St. Louis, and then went to work for Ozark Airlines, where her contributions included helping to write the pilots' manual. She later held a position at the Clay County State Bank in Louisville and devoted over 38 years of her life to Kincaid Oil Company. Throughout her professional journey, Marjory exemplified an unwavering work ethic, laying a foundation that would inspire those around her.
Marjory was actively involved in her community, being a dedicated member of the Flora VFW Women's Auxiliary and a long-time member of the 1st Church of God in Flora. In her later years, while residing with her daughter, she became a member of the 1st Church of God in Effingham, where she continued to foster her spirit of fellowship and community connection.
Beyond her professional and community engagements, Marjory led a vibrant personal life filled with hobbies and interests. An avid bowler, she was part of three different teams at one point and found joy in friendly competition. Her creative talents shone through her love for crafting; she sewed and quilted tirelessly, having made over 500 lap quilts that she generously donated to veterans at the VA Medical Center in Marion each year. She also spent many years delivering meals on wheels to many folks that where younger than her.
Marjory also had a green thumb, nurturing a plethora of house plants during the winter and lovingly tending to her outdoor garden in the summer. Her home was often filled with the delightful aromas of her baking-she was known for her homemade candies and desserts, particularly her fresh apple pies made from apples picked from her own tree.
A devoted reader, Marjory found solace and inspiration in the pages of the Bible, reflecting her deep faith and values throughout her life.
