Mabel May Harmon, age 98 of Sailor Springs, passed away at 5:40 am, on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Burgin Manor in Olney. Mabel, known as Aunt Tiny by family, was born Monday, May 27, 1918 in Pixley Township, Clay County, IL, the daughter of the late Albert Anderson and the late Ethel (Hicks) Anderson. On April 3, 1942 she married Paul "Ken" Harmon. The ceremony was held at the Sailor Springs Christian Church parsonage with the late Corydon Lee Doty officiating. Mabel and Ken enjoyed 58 years together. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2000. She worked for Howard Yonaka's Instant Bible Index, Flora Shoe Factory and Fedders Corporation until her retirement. She plased the violin ever since the age of 7 and was taught by Mitter Franklin, her neighbor. Her entire family were musicians and her sisters and brothers played for fairs, rallies and on Olney Radio Station. She and her sister Bernice played for most of the nursing homes in the area and won volunteer awards. She taught youth Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Sailer Springs Christian Church for 40 years, and was a very faithful member. Although she had no children of her own, she lovingly took care of many nieces and nephews. She loved and was especially fond of her music family and eating at Grandma's Kitchen. She was our special aunt! Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Carrie Payne, Clara Williams, James Anderson, Florence Payne, Delbert "Hunkie" Anderson, Dorothy Brooks, Roxie Wattles and Bernice Noll. She is loved and survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Arrangements are entrusted to J.W. Neal Funeral Home of Louisville, IL where the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, January 20, 2017. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Sailor Springs Christian Church. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday at the church at 11:00 am. Interment will be held in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Pinehaven Christian Children's Ranch in Montana or the Samaritan's Purse and will be received by the funeral home.
