Lillian Birch

Lillian "Maxine" Birch, age 97, of Ingraham, IL, passed away at 3:45 pm, Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga, IL. Lillian "Maxine" McGee Birch was born August 27, 1918 in Blair Township, Clay County, IL, the daughter of the late Henry and the late Cecile (Greenwood) McGee. She married Paul E. Birch on March 10, 1942 in Denver, CO and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1991. Mrs. Birch retired after 29 years as a school teacher having begun her career in a one room schoolhouse. She taught first grade for many of these years in the Dieterich School District. She was a long time member of the Ingraham Christian Church and was a 4-H club leader for many years. Maxine is survived by sister, Norma Jean Wingate of Houston, TX; brother, Albert (Marilyn) McGee of Wentzville, MO; daughter-in-law, Karen Birch of Mattoon; son-in-law, Robert Sperry of Dieterich; brother-in-law, Robert (Dottie) Birch of Altoona, FL; sister-in-law, Leota McGee of Hord; grandchildren, Tami (Eric) Higgs of Dieterich, Lisa (Jeff) Crowell of Effingham, Stacy (Larry) Turowski of Rochester, NY, Niki (Kirk) Packer of Sesser, IL; great-grandchildren, Montana, Colt, Sedona and Stetson Packer of Sesser, IL, Emma and Sophie Turowski of Rochester, NY, Taylor, McKenzie, Jeremiah and Camryn Crowell of Effingham, and Tyler and Rachel Higgs of Dieterich. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Paul Eugene Birch Jr., daughter Connie Sue Sperry, brother John T. McGee and brother-in-law Ray Wingate. Arrangements are being handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, IL. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Ingraham Christian Church in Ingraham, IL. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at Ingraham Christian Church at 12:30 PM. Interment will be at Ingraham Cemetery, Ingraham, IL Memorial donations may be made to the Oil Belt Christian Service Camp in Flora, IL and will be received at the funeral home.
