Obituary

Larry Gene Lambird, age 86, of Pocahontas, Illinois, passed away at 1:36 am, Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Barens-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, with his loving family by his side.

Larry was born on April 26, 1940, in Kinmundy, Illinois the son of Leonard and Eldoris (Strullmyer) Lambird. Larry was united in marriage to Linda Swift on April 26, 1984, at the First Baptist Church in Collinsville, Illinois, and they shared 42 years of marriage. Larry devoted the majority of his professional life to the Terminal Railroad Company, proudly serving as a carman for 32 years before retiring. His work ethic reflected a deep sense of responsibility and pride that defined his career and character.

Larry's faith as a devoted member of the Baptist faith shaped his values and guided his life's journey with unwavering strength and humility. Beyond his professional achievements and spiritual grounding, Larry was a man who embraced the outdoors with open arms. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and joy in nature-whether through fishing, gardening, or exploring new places. His love for adventure was reflected in the many travels he shared with Linda, with Arizona holding a special place in his heart.

One of Larry's greatest passions was his collection of antique cars, a hobby that brought him immense joy and connected him with a like-minded community whenever he could attend car meets. This enthusiasm was more than a pastime; it was a source of inspiration and happiness.

Larry was, above all, a devoted family man. He treasured every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, cherishing those connections above all else. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and their presence was a true blessing in his life.

Larry is survived by his wife: Linda Lambird of Pocahontas, Illinois; children: Jenny Glover of Troy, Illinois, Christine (Russ) Brutcher of Troy, Illinois; grandchildren: Jude Glover, Julia Glover, Kaylee Lambird, Landon Cartwright, Gavin Brutcher; 4 children from his first marriage: Theresa Lambird, Pam Barbaratto, Danny Lambird, Colleen Vasper; several grandchildren from that union; 3 siblings: Janet Perkins of Rock Fall, Illinois, Diane Lambird of Collinsville, Illinois, Wayne Lambird of St. Jacob, Illinois; special nephews: Steven and Michael Hibbs, and many other nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Charles Lambird.
