Larry Neil Freeman, 74, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016, at his home in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. He was formerly of Jay, Oklahoma, and Kankakee and Farina, Illinois. Larry was born in Flora, Illinois, on November 11, 1941, to William Anderson Freeman and Virginia Rose (McPeak) Freeman. Larry was united in marriage to Marilyn Kaye Jamison in Salem, Illinois in 1964. Larry graduated from SIU with an Associates Degree. Larry moved from Kankakee, IL, to Jay, OK, after his retirement from the State of Illinois where he gave 36 years of his love and life to Shapiro Develop Mental Center as a LUA (Living Unit Administrator). He was a great leader who was loved not only by the individuals but by his co-workers as well. After his 36 years at Shapiro where Larry held a great passion and love for his job, he continued to be a champion for individuals with learning disabilities at the Delaware County Friendship Home in Jay, Oklahoma, where he was actively involved in the Special Olympics until he moved to his daughter's home in Tennessee. There he spent his days watching his great-grandchildren grow and play. Larry was of the Baptist Faith and belonged to the First Baptist Church in Jay, OK. He also belonged to the Kankakee Valley AVERT Team (CB Club) which held many benefits to raise money to support the mentally handicap throughout the years. Larry also enjoyed bowling, fishing, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Larry Neil is survived by his wife, Marilyn Kaye (Jamison) Freeman of Lawrenceburg, TN; daughters, Sheri (Freeman) and Richard West of Lawrenceburg, TN, Nanette Freeman and Debra Wendling of Bourbonnais, IL, and Penny (Freeman) and Tim Trout of Bradley, IL; two sisters, Betty (Freeman) and Mark Purcell of Salem, IL, and Mary (Freeman) and Carol Mulvany of Decatur, IL; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Graveside services will be conducted by Neal Funeral Home in Louisville, IL, at Tolliver Cemetery in Louisville on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Ronnie Owens officiating.
