John Henry Klanke, 95, of Flora, passed away at 7:20 pm on Monday, November 4, 2019 at his home. John was born on March 30, 1924 in Flora the son of the late Albert and Hannah (McDonald) Klanke. He married Lena Marie Milburn on May 20, 1947 in Salem and she preceded him in death on September 8, 2016. Mr. Klanke served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He later received a purple heart after being wounded in Saipan. John was a mechanic for many years employed by Kelly & Max Dye in Louisville and was also a parts manager for the Chevrolet and Ford garages in Flora. Later, he would work in the tool and die and quality control departments at Southwire in Flora before his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, watching hummingbirds and visiting family. John is survived by two sons; John Klanke of Flora and Albert Michael (Connie) Klanke of Louisville, four daughters; Sandra Cook, Debbie Kelley, Vicki Klanke and Stacey Klanke all of Flora, ten grandchildren; Fred Klanke, Penny Klanke, Dale Klanke, Colin Cook, Matt Cook, Kathy Jane Clark, Barb Kelley, Cheyenne Blair, Samuel Klanke and Rebekkah Klanke, seven great grandchildren; Andy Sharp, MaryAnn Savage, Rhiannon Wilkin, Morgan Wilkin, Corbin Butterick, Emmalee Blair, Paisley Blair, four great-great grandchildren; Serenity Savage, Gavin Savage, River Savage and Carley Sharp. Besides his parents and his wife, John was preceded in death by a son, Fred Albert Klanke, two brothers, Fred and James Klanke and by five sisters; Edith Dalton, Aline Kelm, Dorothy Williams, Carrie Beasley and Mary Williams. Funeral services honoring the life of John will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2019 at the Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville. Nancy Myers will officiate. Interment will follow at Golden Cemetery in Flora where military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services on Friday.
