Jean Kepley-Pruett, 93, wife of the late Captain Carl Eugene Pruett, USN, MC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Sylvestery in Mclean, Virginia. She was born on November 25, 1924 in Granite City, Illinois the only child of the late George Robert and Pauline (Farrell) Kepley. Mrs. Pruett graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a BA in Music in 1945. She was a member of the Delta Omicron Sorority. Throughout her life, she contributed to her community by sharing the gift of her extraordinary voice. She was an organist, choir member, soloist and director of the many church choirs where she and her husband were stationed. From 1955 through 1957, she performed with San Diego Civic Light Opera, also known as the Starlight Musical Theatre, at Balboa Park in San Diego, California. Mrs. Pruett was a resident of Mclean, Virginia for 56 years. During that time, she served as a President of the Navy Doctor's Wives Club in Bethesda, Maryland. She raised money for the establishment of the Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence (Vinson Hall) in Mclean, Virginia, and volunteered in their gift shop. She was a member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Arlington, Virginia, since 1952. Jean is survived by three children, Merry Carol (Herbert) Jonkers of Chilhowie, Virginia, Richard (Irina Zaretskaya) Kepley-Pruett of North Potomac, Maryland and Roberta (Michael)-Beasley of Vienna, Virginia; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A private family interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy.
