Ira Gammon

Ira "Ike" Gammon, 84, of Alma, IL, passed away on February 17, 2011 at Momence Medows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Momence, IL. Ike was born on July 25, 1926 to James and Myrtle Ricker Gammon. He was the owner/operator of Standard Oil and Amoco Stations in Alma and Salem, IL and later a gasoline station in Kinmundy, IL He loved golf, hunting, and fishing. He was also known for growing great crops of tomatoes. He is survived by his children, Kris Gammon and Janis Horn, six grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, three nephews and three nieces. Ike was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mildred, and brothers Elmer Gammon, Andy Gammon, and Harry Gammon. Ike and Bernice Martin were married on April 10, 1964. Ola Bernice "Bea" (Martin) Gammon, age 92, of Salem, passed away on December 24, 2017 at the Salem Township Hospital. Bea was born on April 3, 1925 to Tanner and Ethel Wilcoxen Martin. She is survived by nephews Stan, Daniel, and John Parker, Buddy and Martin Miller, and Garry and Norman Krutsinger. She is survived by her nieces Jeana Parker, Julie Kohrig, Tracy Clifton, Lori Allen, and Melissa Martin. Bea was preceded in death by her husband Ike, her parents, sisters Lois Martin, Eileen Krutsinger, and Donna Parker, her brother Forrest "Bud" Martin and her niece Dena Ruffin. Bea lived in Alma most of her married life, before moving to the Manor at Salem Woods, where she lived the remainder of her life. In accordance with their wishes, at Ike's death, he was cremated and his ashes kept until Bea's death. Their ashes are to be mixed together in a single urn to be buried together in Alma. A memorial service for Ike and Bea Gammon will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Neal Funeral Home in Kinmundy. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Manor at Salem Woods or Salem Township Hospital. Private burial will be held at the Alma Cemetery at a later date.
