Helen Vandyke

Helen "Louise" VanDyke, age 97 of Flora, passed away at 5:25 pm, Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. Helen was born June 27, 1918 in Bible Grove, IL, the daughter of the late Frank and the late Bertha (Roberts) Specht. She married John T. VanDyke on June 7, 1946 in Flora, IL. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1997. She was a member of McCabe General Baptist Church and a member of the Good Mother Club. Helen greatly enjoyed all of her family through several generations and was a very bright woman even at a young age. She was a high school graduate at the age of 16 and was employed at Lincoln School in the Flora School District as a secretary. Helen is survived by her son, Darrel (Carolyn) VanDyke of Coppell, TX; daughters, Nancy VanDyke of Xenia, Mary Susan (Charlie) Hoy of Branson, MO, Carol (Jerry) Wood of Flora; sister, Cleatis Welch of Centralia; grandchildren, Alex VanDyke of Houston, TX, Jessica Coryell of Tulsa, OK, Caitlin Chappell of Tulsa, OK, Mike (Denise) Wood of Flora, Todd (Jane) Wood of Flora, Kari Wood of Louisville, KY, Charlene Hoy of Branson, MO, Treasa Henry of Hubbard, OH; great grandchildren, Aja (Wayne Jones) Wood of Oskaloosa, Talia (Jeremy) Moore of Effingham, Ian Wood of East Alton, Will Wood and Alan Wood both of Cisne, Rory (Kaci) O'Dell of Flora, Mina Wood of Flora, Nora Chappell of Tulsa, OK, Brandon Julius of USMC in North Carolina, Ashley (Robbie) Kinney of St. Elmo;; great-great grandchildren, Kennedy Jones, Kenley Moore, Emerson Moore, Jett O'Dell and Riley Kinney. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sister Maylene Specht. Arrangements are being handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home of Louisville. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the funeral home at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Old Union Cemetery rural Louisville.
