LOUISVILLE - Harold Lee Hawn, 68, of Louisville passed away at 6:30 PM, Sunday, December 27, 2020 at his home in Louisville. Harold Hawn was born in Effingham Co in 1952 to Hazel and James Hawn. He began serving his Country at the age of 19 in the Army during the Vietnam War. During his brief time in Vietnam he contracted malaria and took a direct hit from mortar that came in under the ambulance while being transported to a hospital in Saigon. Harold was an avid gamer in Mechwarrior, EVE, World of Warcraft, Skyrim also serving as a beta tester for Guild Wars & Mechwarrior online. He was a political opinion writer, short story and poetry writer. Mr. Hawn was a trained citizen scientist under the umbrella of EcoWatch for RiverWatch and a trained weather spotter for NOAA through ESDA. Mr Hawn along with his wife worked together to help the impoverished of central Illinois break free from the cycle of poverty through the Yellow Crayon Project that he and his wife created in memory of a friends child who had lost the battle to leukemia. Mr Hawn also enjoyed good westerns, books by John Grisham, and music by Joe Bonamassa, Jethro Tull, and the Moody Blues. Mr Hawn leaves behind his wife Dana Hawn (Steinhoff), son Adam Baglin of Troy, IL, son Anthony White of Colorado, son Jesse Hawn of southern IL. Granddaughter Alyssa Hawn of Willard, MO. He is preceded in death by his brother Hollis Hawn, sister Norma Cosner, mother Hazel Hawn, father James Hawn, and beloved son Minas Kassiou. Donations are being accepted to help the family with the cost of cremation. A celebration of his life is being planned so when the Covid has lifted that his family & friends may come together to remember him and their duty to carry forth his goodness in this world in his memory. McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
