Glen Lewis

Glen Edward Lewis, age 86, of Louisville, IL, peacefully entered Heaven on Thursday at 4:05 am at Clay County Hospital in Flora, surrounded by his family. Glen was born on September 18, 1930, in rural Bible Grove to William Noah Lewis and Lillian Annice (Harmon) Lewis. On January 6, 1953, Glen married Lois Irene Bailey of Louisville. One week after their marriage, Glen left for an 11 month tour in Korea with the United States Army. After Glen's service to his country, he returned home to Louisville. Glen and Lois were blessed with three children, Debra Irene, Alan Edward and Joyce Yvonne. Glen was a hard worker, often sacrificing sleep to provide for his family. He worked as an electrician/plumber with his brother Ronald for many years. Glen owned and operated Lewis and Son Trucking. He was employed by Fedders in Effingham for many years, where he worked in the laboratory. Glen, Lois and the girls all worked at the Rendezvous Drive-In together. In 1980, Glen began working for North Clay Unite 25 as a maintenance man and janitor. Glen retired from the school district in 1993, and continued to enjoy working for Neal Funeral Home. Glen's Christian faith was very important to him. In his early years, he was a member of Shouse Chapel Methodist Church in rural Bible Grove. After his marriage to Lois, he becamse a member of Red Brush Christian Church in Louisville, where he served in many capacities, including deacon, teacher, and long-time elder. Glen loved the church and devoted much time and energy to serving God at Red Brush. Glen loved the game of baseball since childhood and was a Little League coach for many years. He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals Fan. Glen loved the outdoors and spent much time deer-hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting, but most of all he was a great and loving husband and father to his children and grandchildren. Glen was a member of the American Legion Post 914 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and previously served on the North Clay Fire Department. Glen is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lois; daughters Debbie (Rick) Allen and Joyce (John) Robey of Louisville; grandchildren Niki (Cortney) Mullens, James (Christy) Robey, Courtney (Tim) Davis, Zeb Lewis, Jordan (Kimberly) Robey, Elam Lewis, Erick Allen, and Mariah (Jeremy) Myers; great-grandchildren Josie and Briley Mullens; Justice Robey; Kylee, Khloe, and Crawford Davis; Zaiden and Azaira Lewis; Sylvia, Meila, Gavin and Nile Robey; Jayden Lewis; Cambria, Courtlyn and Cylar Allen; Layla Howe and Avystan Myers; three sisters, Laurel Carter of Flora, Charity Thompson of Flora and Margaret Zink of Houston, Texas; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Alvie, Ronald, Lowell, Ken and David, and his son Alan. Arrangments are in the care of J.W. Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Red Brush Christian Church on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 10:00 am with burial to follow in the Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be held at the church from 5pm until 7 pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Brush Christian Church or to Oil Belt Christian Service Camp.
