Eva "Fooie" Whitely, age 79 of Flora, Illinois passed away at 9:35 pm, Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Axiom Healthcare of Flora. 

Born on November 19, 1946, in Iola, Illinois, the daughter of Marvin and Opel (Bennett) Helms. She lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a steadfast commitment to those around her.

Eva devoted many years of her life to working as a housekeeper at Flora Healthcare, where her attentive nature and caring spirit left a lasting impression on colleagues and residents alike. Her work was a reflection of her genuine kindness and unwavering reliability, qualities that endeared her to many.

Beyond her professional life, Eva had a rich and fulfilling personal life. She was known for her love of camping, embracing the great outdoors with enthusiasm and joy. As a proud member of Tragio Lake in Xenia, she found peace and pleasure in the natural world. However, Fooie’s greatest joy was always spending time with her family, cherishing the moments shared and the bonds formed.

 Eva had formerly attended the North Harder Christian Church, where she found spiritual comfort and community.

Fooie is survived by her partner of over 20 years: Rhonda Poll of Louisville; daughter: Tammy Whitely of Louisville; 2 grandchildren: Kaylee Giddings and Brittney Giddings; great granddaughter: Callie Burge; siblings: Glenda Jones of Louisville, Randy Helms of Clay City, Robin Cross of Salem, Penny Glover of Bible Grove. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Larry Helms. 

It was Fooie's wishes for cremation, and a family organized memorial service to celebrate Fooie's life will be held at 12:00 pm, Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Christ Church in Flora. The McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville is assisting the family with the arrangements.
