Erma J. Devall

Erma J. Devall, 96, of Alma passed away at 4:30 am, Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Doctor's Nursing Facility in Salem. 

Erma was born on June 16, 1927 in Newton, Illinois the daughter of Ralph and Edith (Cook) Fitch. At a young age she married Leland Devall in Kentucky, and they shared many years of marriage together before he passed away in 1980.

Erma was a farm wife and preferred being on a tractor to washing dishes.  She spent hours in her gardens and her flower beds stopped traffic. She was still mowing her yard in her 90's.   When Leland died, she kept the cattle herd, only giving them up in her 70's.  She was a fabulous seamstress and made many wedding, prom, and pageant dresses.   She was the grandmother, aunt, and great aunt who got down on the floor, went to the woods, camped out or whatever the kids wanted to do.  

She is survived by her daughters: Linda (Scott) Summerville of Alma, Lora (Bob) Thomas of Sarasota, Florida; 2 grandchildren: Greg (Lacy) Summerville of Flora, Roxanne Summerville of Sarasota, Florida; a sister: Ruth Fitch of Casey, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings: Denise Fitch, Ethelyn Pumphrey, Ladonna Henderson, Herschella Kreitlein, Ralph Fitch.

It was Erma's wishes for cremation and no services will be held at this time. Memorials may be made in Erma's memory to the American Cancer Society and those can be sent to the funeral home. The McGriff Funeral Home in Kinmundy is assisting the family with the arrangements.
