Elza Welty

Elza Welty, age 98, of Flora, IL, passed away at 1:40pm, Wednesday 14, 2012, at his home in Flora. Elza was born October 23, 1913, in Louisville, IL, the son of William and Laura (Gillespie) Welty. He married Thelma Marie Holmes on October 23, 1938 in Olney, Illinois. He was employed by B & O Railroad and enjoyed his time as a member of the Flora American Legion. Elza is survived by wife, Thelma Welty of Flora; sons, Donald (Geneva) Welty of Flora, David (Pam) Welty of Mt. Vernon, Joe (Elaine) Welty of Flora, Glenn (Pam) Welty of Milton, FL, and Mike (Linda) Welty of Xenia; daughters, Shirley Gallaway of Salem, Sandy Taylor of Buckner, MO and Joyce Paniente of Hollywood, FL; sisters, Mildred Fox of St. Louis, MO, Willma Murphy of Iowa and Laura Pearl Ray of Iowa, 22 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and L:aura Welty; infant daughter Marie Welty; an infant son, and son Reggie Welty; sons-in-law Lawrence Gallaway and Robert Taylor; brothers, Lawrence Welty, Vaughn Welty, John Welty, Albert Welty and Fred Welty; adopted brothers, William Welty and Fred Welty Jr.; sisters, Marjorie Bailey, Rosey Leff, Mary McGrew and Permelia Gragert. Arrangements are being handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, IL where the family will recieve friends from 1:00pm-3:00pm, Sunday, March 18, 2012. Funeral service will be at J.W. Neal Funeral Home at 3:00pm, Sunday March 18, 2012. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Legion "Gifts For The Yanks" Program and will be recieved at the funeral home.
