Elwyn Cheatum

Elwyn Dale Cheatum, age 85, of Kinmundy, Illinois, passed away at 10:13 am, Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Doctors Health And Rehab Center in Salem, Illinois. Elwyn was born Sunday, November 25, 1928 in Mason, Illinois, the son of the late Ervin Cheatum and the late Nina (Norris) Cheatum. He married Louise Green on April 15, 1950 at Kinmundy Christian Church and to this union one son and one daughter were born. He was self employed in the real estate business as well as a member of Kinmundy First United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Kinmundy Masons, Shriners and Scottish Rite in which he was a 50 year member of all. He served two terms as the mayor of Kinmundy and was a president of the Peoria Board of Realtors as well as a member of the Kaskaskia College Foundation Board. Elwyn is survived by wife, Louise Cheatum of Kinmundy; son, Dan Cheatum of Carbondale, IL; daughter, Janice (Steve) Eischens of Salem, IL; brother, Don (Ellie) Cheatum of Fairfield Glade, TN; sisters-in-law, June Cheatum of Effingham, Eileen Cheatum of Salem; grandchildren, Cameron (Samantha) Eischens of Kinmundy, Elsbeth (Ed) Charlton of Alma, IL; great grandchildren, Noah, Logan, Tucker, Carly, Collin and Isaiah. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Floyd Cheatum and William "Spike" Cheatum. Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, Kinmundy, IL. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2014, as well as 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Kinmundy First United Methodist Church, located at 308 East 3rd, Kinmundy, IL. Funeral service will be held at Kinmundy First United Methodist Chruch at 11:00am, Monday, February 17, 2014. Interment will be at Sandy Branch Cemetery, Kinmundy, IL. Masonic Rites will be accorded during the visitation on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 7:30 PM at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Kinmundy/Alma EMT's, or Sandy Branch Cemetery.
