Dorothy Jean Holzhausen, age 93, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 3:05 pm, Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont. Dorothy was born May 6, 1923 in Douglas County, IL, the daughter of the late Clarence PIckel and the late Rose Ella (Sapp) Pickel. On October 13, 1941 she was united in marriage to John "Johnnie" Henry Holzhausen in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1998. She enjoyed her time as a homemaker and attended Meacham Baptist Church and was a member of Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church in Effingham. She leaves to mourn her passing, sons, Kenneth Dale (Vicki) Holzhausen of Waggoner, IL, Chris Eugene Holzhausen of Peoria, IL, Robert Glen (Judy) Holzhausen of Mooresville, NC, JImmy Allen (Connie) Holzhausen of Franklin, IN, Darrell Lee (Linda) Holzhausen of Philo, IL, Johnnie "Galen" (Susan) Holzhausen of Bluford, GA; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnnie, an infant son David Scott Holzhausen who passed in 1966, brothers Floyd Raleigh and Paul Pickel, and sisters Viola, Grace, Nellie, Audrey, Mabel, Vera Allene, Mildred and Violet. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to J.W. Neal Funeral Home of Louisville, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, March 9, 2017. A celebration of life will be held Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with interment following at Oskaloosa Cemetery, Louisville. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church of Effingham or the donor's choice and will be received at the funeral home.
