David William Brimberry, age 76, of Kinmundy, Illinois passed away at 10:01 pm, Monday, April 20,2026, at his home in Kinmundy.
David was born in Kinmundy, the son of Joe and Minnie (Mulvaney) Brimberry. He was united in marriage to Linda Johnson on May 17, 1974, at the Alma Methodist Church and they shared 51 years of marriage.
His service to his country was a defining chapter in his life. In 1966, David enlisted in the United States Army and began his military career, and while stationed in Germany he reenlisted in 1968. His dedication and bravery were further proven through his service in Vietnam. After five years of honorable duty, he was discharged in 1971 in New Jersey. This period of his life exemplified his courage, discipline, and strong sense of patriotism.
A man of varied talents and vocations, David worked in numerous roles throughout his life. His early years saw him laboring alongside farmers, gaining firsthand experience in the agricultural life. He later found work in the oil fields and made a significant mark as a truck driver, hauling oil across the region.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, David was a man of many hobbies and interests that brought him joy and fulfillment. He was an avid trap shooter who delighted in attending trap shooting events, finding camaraderie and challenge in the sport. An outdoorsman at heart, David cherished fishing and spending quiet, reflective time immersed in nature. His love for growing flowers and watching hummingbirds testified to his gentle and observant spirit. Additionally, David enjoyed attending auctions, always on the lookout for a good bargain, reflecting his practical and shrewd nature. On occasions when he stayed indoors, he could be found absorbed in reading, particularly westerns and science fiction novels, or enjoying the excitement of college football games.
David was also a member of the Iuka Masonic Lodge, where he shared fellowship and contributed to the community with the values that freemasonry embodies.
David is survived by his wife: Linda Brimberry of Kinmundy; children: Keith (Julie) Brimberry of Texico, Stephanie Brimberry of Alma, Michael Brimberry of Alma' 2 grandchildren: Theresa (Jason) Krutsinger of Texico, Mason Brimberry of Alexandria, Virginia; 3 great-grandchildren: Ivan Krutsinger, Alina Krutsinger, Austin Krutsinger; a brother: James (Jessica) Brimberry of West Plains, Missouri; a sister: Nancy Boyles of West Plains, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents; 2 infant siblings; 2 brothers: George Brimberry, Bob Brimberry; a sister: Mary Lawson.
Graveside funeral services to celebrate David's life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy with Rev. Rae DeLao officiating, military funeral honors will also be held at the graveside to honors David's service to his County. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the McGriff Funeral Home in Kinmundy from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Anyone attending the graveside service is asked to meet at the cemetery just prior to service time.
