LOUISVILLE – Darrel D. Budde, 89, of Louisville passed onto his heavenly home at 8:02 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Evergreen Nursing and Rehab Center in Effingham.

Darrel Duane Budde was born on January 16, 1932, in Clay County, the son of Otto and Emma (Bergmann) Budde. He was baptized on February 7, 1932, and confirmed on April 14, 1946. On January 3, 1953, he married Doris Wolf at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Island Grove. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2013. Darrel left his new bride Doris to serve his country in the US Army Forces, stationed in Soldiers Field in Nurnberg Germany, from February 1953 to February 1955 and received the rank of Sergeant. Upon his return he and Doris moved to Effingham/Clay County line where they carried on the family farm. He loved raising Hereford cattle, feeder cattle, and raised many hogs.

He was very involved with his church at St. John’s where he was a long time Sunday school teacher, held many offices in the church, a member of the men’s club, Lutheran Layman’s League and enjoyed bowling in the church league. He also served many years as cemetery custodian that he loved doing. He worked at Olney, Illinois Sale Barn for 10 years and had the ability to be an auctioneer. He also worked for Neal Funeral Home in Louisville for many years. He also served as a Pioneer sales representative for 20 years. He was very involved in his community with being a Clay County 4-H leader, member of the Pork Producers, serving on the North Clay Elementary School Board and a Clay County State Bank on the Board of Directors. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Dean) Berg, of Louisville, son, Mark deceased (Vickie) Budde, of Stewardson. Three grandchildren that he treasured, Kara Berg, of Louisville, Kurt (Randi) Berg, of Mason and Ethan Budde, of Stewardson, and on great grandchild, Brynleigh Berg who brought smiles to his face. One brother, Eldred (Betty) Budde, of Argenta; two sisters, Carolyn (Howard) Hammer, of Altamont, and Judy (Sam) Stuemke, of Altamont; sister-in-law, Loma Budde, of Louisville; 12 nieces; 12 nephews. Those greeting him in heaven include his wife, Doris; son, Mark; parents, Otto and Emma; his brothers, Henry, Rufus, Delmar, and Mervin; sisters, Bernice Wolf, Elnora Budde, Joan Cunningham, and Janice Holste; brother-in-law, Ray Wolff, and nephews, Ricky Cunningham, and Craig Wolff.

Funeral services honoring the life of Darrel will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church on the Effingham/Clay County line, with Rev. Stephen Rutherford officiating, and burial with full military honors to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening at the church where friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and then on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
