Darla Jean Murphy, age 58, of Louisville, Illinois passed away peacefully at 2:19 am, Thursday, June 5, 2025, at her home with her loving family by her side.
Born on October 22, 1966, in Terre Haute, Indiana, she was the cherished daughter of Harold and Phyllis (Martin) Sutherlin. Throughout her life, Darla exemplified strength, passion, and dedication, always approaching every challenge with an unwavering resolve.
For nearly 17 years, Darla served diligently at the Clay County Clerk's Office, where her commitment shone brightly. Even as her health began to decline in her final months, she continued to work diligently, a testament to her determination and work ethic. Her love for reading was one of her cherished pastimes; she found solace in books, often bringing a novel to work, enjoying moments of escape during her lunch hours, and settling on her front porch with a favorite story.
Darla was deeply devoted to her family, wanting nothing more than to create cherished memories with them. Her relationships with her loved ones were characterized by care and devotion, as she routinely went above and beyond in everything she undertook. Darla held several community roles, including being a member of the Louisville American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 914. She also served as the trustee for the Hoosier Township Board.
She is survived by her mother, Phyllis Kincaid, of Louisville; her daughter, Kari Murphy (Zach Harrell), of Xenia; and a step-daughter, Becky (Jason) Dodd, of Mattoon, Illinois; grandchildren, Chloe and Madison Dodd, as well as a host of family members including her father-in-law, Larry Murphy, Sr.; sisters-in-law Debbie (Tony) Aldrich of Alma, Sherry (Rodney) Hagen of Lake in The Hills, Illinois, and Jennifer (Kenny) Flier of Greenup. A special cousin Gayla Sutherlin along with several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Darla's beloved fur babies, Murph, Jax, and Kit Kat.
Darla was preceded in death by her father, Harold Sutherlin; step-father, Edd Kincaid; mother-in-law, Jeanette Murphy; and uncle, Ernie Sutherlin. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her, forever a guiding light in their lives. Darla's strength and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Funeral services to celebrate Darla's life will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville with Ted Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at Hoosier Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, and then on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Darla's memory to the Clay County Cancer Crusaders or Clay County Animal Shelter.
