Billy Olden

KINMUNDY – Billy Ray Olden, 77, of Kinmundy passed away at 2:09 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021, at his home in Kinmundy.

He was born on July 5, 1944, in Kinmundy, the son of Raymond Roscoe and Mabel Pauline “Keen” Olden of Kinmundy. He married Ruth Ann Fender on February 5, 1972, and they celebrated 35 years before she passed away on August 31, 2007. Billy was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served during the Viet Nam era, serving with the Bravo 5th Infantry division “Red Devils”.  He loved to reconnect with his military buddies and attended several reunions. Billy was a member of the Salem American Legion Post 128. He worked at World Color Press in Salem for 35+ years as a machinist and in the maintenance department. He enjoyed working on his go carts, and spending time at his lot in his shop drinking coffee and talking with friends and neighbors. His love for his grandkids was immeasurable.

He is survived by 2 sons, Shawn Ray Olden of Kinmundy; and Cory Ray (Jenna) Thorsen of Salem; 1 sister, Patty Ann Williams, of Salem.  He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Brittani Butts, Effingham; Courtney Boswell, Effingham; Brandon Olden, Brownstown; Kristan Olden, Olney; Steven Meador, Salem; Maci Thorsen, Salem; and Josi Thorsen, Salem; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Billy was preceded in parents, step-son Mitchell “Mike” Estep; step-daughter Cheryl Ann Butts and his nephew Troy Allen Williams.

Billy’s way of summing up his life was, “It’s Been a Good Time”.

Funeral services honoring the life of Billy will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2021 at the Kinmundy Christian Church with Josh Conley officiating, burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy, with military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Billy Ray Olden Scholarship Fund. The McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Kinmundy is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
