Arthur (Art) Franklin Chrisman, 81, of Louisville, Dies; A 31+ Year Employee Of Caterpillar of Joliet, IL. Art Chrisman, of rural Louisville, died peacefully at home at 12:25 p.m., September 2, 2014. he had battled cancer for a few years until he was unable to fight anymore. he was surrounded by many close family members and many friends during his last few days. A special thank you for Pastor Bruce Horsley, who visted him many, many times offering prayers and bible readings to console Art. Art's caretakers were also very dear to Art's heart as was his Hospice nurses during his final hours. Art was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. While employed at Caterpillar, Art also did custom carpentry, building cabinets and many wood projects for his friends and associates. Since retiring from Caterpillar, Art's craftsmanship found its way into many homes in Illinois. Art also had a soft heart for farming. Art devoted many hours to helping our local farmers by working the fields, operating their tractors, and helping load pigs for market. Art moved to Louisville from Joliet, IL in the early 80's and kept rabbits, pigs, goats and a cow at his rural homestead, also known as "Chrisman Village". Art was a member of Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church of rural Louisville and was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge #151 of Flora, IL. Art and Betty Chrisman were the managers/caretakers of the Odd Fellow Lake Campground in Clay City, IL, for a few years. Art and Betty prided themselves by insuring the entire campground was fully occupied during their years of tenure. Art was born January 26, 1933 in Mt. Erie, IL, of Franklin and Julia (Scott) Chrisman of Mt. Erie. He married Betty Prine on November 8, 1951 in Fairfield, IL. Survivors include his wife Betty Chrisman, one son, Richard Chrisman (wife Nisa), of Louisville; one daughter, Cheryl (Chrisman) Worrell (husband Greg) of Thomasboro, IL; two grandchildren, Albert A. Nelsen (wife Shelby) of Thomasboro, and Tiffany L. (Nelsen) Perkins (husband Mike) of Rankin, IL; and one great grandchild Ava Marie Ortega and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Art also has numerous nieces and nephews. Art also has four sisters: Maxine Gregory of Norris City, Marie Naney of Mattoon, IL, Marietta Enyart of Louisville, IL, and Golda Mae Brent of Wasilla, Alaska. Arrangements are being handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home, 824 Chestnut St., Louisville, IL where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, September 5, 2014. Funeral service will be held at Hoosier Prarie Baptist Church at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 6, 2014. With a one hour visitation prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Hoosier Prairie Cemetery, rural Louisville, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clay County Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
